We live in an obesogenic environment in which it is much easier to become fat than to stay thin. As a result more than a billion people worldwide are now overweight and some 600 million obese. This matters to companies and organisations because employee health and performance are negatively impacted by the physical and mental consequences of what doctors’ term the ‘Metabolic Syndrome’ . This includes high blood pressure, Type II diabetes, coronary heart disease with an increased risk of depression, cancer, dementia and rheumatoid arthritis. In this presentation (that can also be a workshop or seminar) I explain how weight problems arise, why the advice to ‘eat less and move more’ is so unhelpful and what practical steps individuals can take either to reduce or maintain a healthy weight.
